COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Purdue women's golf team is in fourth place after the first day of the 2004 Big Ten Women's Golf Championships. The event is being held on the OSU Scarlet Course on the campus of Ohio State University in Columbus.

The Boilermakers fired a first-round 305 in the morning 18 on Friday. They shot a 310 in the afternoon for a first-day total of 615. Ohio State leads the event after a total on 600 on the tournaments first day. Purdue trails Wisconsin by just four strokes for third place.

The Scarlet Course is a par-72, 6,201-yard layout. Ohio State is the defending champion. OSU's Allison Hanna and Indiana's Karen Dennison are the reigning individual champions.

Purdue was led by senior Beth Hermes and freshman Myrte Eikenaar. Both are tied for sixth place overall after first-day totals of 151. The duo both fired a 75 on the first 18 holes and a 76 in the afternoon.

Sophomore Onnarin Sattayabanphot tied for 14th overall. She shot a 76 in the morning and a 77 in the afternoon.

Freshmen Caroline Haase is tied for 35th place after a two-round total of 160. Freshman Maria Stinson totaled a 166 on day one and is tied for 166.

Senior Ella Asbun is tied for 58th after a total of 168.

Live scoring of the third round of 2004 Women's Big Ten Championships will be provided by golfstat.com on Saturday. The Boilermakers tee off at 9 a.m. ET.
