GLENVIEW, Ill. - The Purdue men's golf team tied for second place at the Windon Memorial Classic in Glenview, Ill. The event was hosted by Northwestern University.
The Boilermakers totaled an 868 through the event's three rounds. Minnesota won the tournament with an 859. Purdue tied with California, which fired a final-round 277. Purdue's total of 868 was the fourth-lowest 54-hole tournament score in school history.
Freshman Peter Richardson captured his first tournament title in merely three starts with a three-round total of 206. Richardson's 206 is a 54-hole record for Purdue breaking the mark of 208 set by Lee Williamson in 2001. Richardson fired a 67 and 68 on Monday and a final-round 71 to win by five strokes.
Junior Dustin Cone put together back-to-back 70's in the final two rounds to tie for seventh. He totaled a 215 over the two days.
Senior Shiv Kapur tied for 13th overall with a 218. Freshman Pariya Junhasavasdikul tied for 66th. Freshman Bobby Bennett carded a 230 and tied for 69th in his first collegiate event.
The tournament was held on the par-72, 7,031-yard North Shore Golf Course, the site of the 1993 U.S. Open.
The Boilermakers are in action again on Oct. 13 and 14 at the Alister MacKenzie Invitational in Fairfax, Calif.
