KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Purdue women's golf is tied for 12th after the first round of the 2003 Mercedes-Benz Collegiate Challenge in Knoxville, Tenn.
The Boilermkaers fired a first round 310 and trail Tennessee by only 10 strokes for a spot in the top five. Oklahoma State leads the event overall after a first-round 291.
The event is being hosted by Tennessee University and held on the par-72, 6,201-yard Fox Den Country Club. The Boilermakers won the event in 2002. It's their fifth time playing in the tournament.
The Boilermakers were led by senior Ella Asbun and sophomore Onnarin Sattayabanphot, who fired first-round 73's.
Freshman Caroline Haase carded an 81 and is tied for 74th. Senior Beth Hermes fired an 83.
Second round action will be held on Monday and the tournament's final round is on Tuesday.
