LINCOLN, Neb. - The Purdue women's golf team is in 11th place after the first two rounds of the 2003 NCAA Women's Golf Central Regional Championships in Lincoln, Neb.
The Boilermakers fired a first-round 309 and a second-round 303. They posted a Friday total of 612. California leads the field with a 584 after the first two rounds.
The tournament featured 36 holes on Friday because Thursday's round was rained out.
Purdue was led by freshman Onnarin Sattayabanphot, who totaled a 152 on Friday. Sattayabanphot shot a first-round 78 and second-round 74. She is tied for 30th overall.
Junior Beth Hermes is tied for 35th overall after a 153 on Saturday. She fired rounds of 76 and 77. All-Big Ten senior Kari Damron is tied for 43rd after a total of 155.
Seniors Heather Suhr and Heather Zielinski are tied for 43rd and 68th. Suhr fired a 77 and 78 for a total of 155. Zielinski carded an 84 and then shot a 75 to total 159.
The top eight teams advance to the 2003 NCAA Women's Golf Championships held at the Kampen Course at Purdue's Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex from May 20 to 23. The Boilermakers are merely three strokes out of eight place with 18 holes remaining.
