Guice Named "March Athlete of the Month": High jumper Shaun Guice recently was selected Purdue's male "March Athlete of the Month" ... Guice received this citation after turning in a stellar performance at the NCAA Indoor Championships ... in Fayetteville, Ark., Guice became the first male Purdue track & field athlete to achieve All-America honors in four consecutive seasons after he reached a third-place height of 7 feet, 1.5 inches in the high jump ...Guice is the second track athlete to receive this honor in as many months ... Kenneth Baxter earned the award for February.

Texas Relays Recap: Eleven Boilermakers competed at the prestigious Texas Relays ... the three-day event was held at the University of Texas in Austin from April 3 to 5 ... senior Krissy Liphardt kicked off Purdue's successful run after placing second in her preliminary heat and 14th overall in the 400-meter hurdles ... the Boilermakers' lone female individual track competitor recorded a time of 1:01.69 seconds, just missing the NCAA regional qualifying mark of 1:01.50 ... long jumper Jamar Green and pole vaulter Simona Kovacic became the latest individual Boilermakers to qualify for the NCAA regionals ... Green reached a distance of 25 feet 3/4 inches in the long jump and Kovacic achieved a height of 12-7 1/2 in the pole vault ... Green originally qualified for regionals one week ago at the Purdue Invitational as part of the 4x100 relay team ... the 4x200 and 4x100 relays squads established new school records ... junior Brian Smith placed third in the javelin with a launch of 209-8 breaking the regional standard for a second consecutive week ... in the men's pole vault, Hence "Pooh" Williams placed 11th with a height of 16-5 ... in the high jump Shaun Guice recorded a eighth-place height of 7-3/4, while teammate Derek Watkins tied for 10th at 6-10 3/4.

Relay Record Rewrite: The relay squad of Jamar Green, Jacques Reeves, Prentice Stovall and Kenneth Baxter broke a pair of school records during the final day of competition at the Texas Relays on April 5 ... the Boilermaker quartet smashed a 13-year old school record in the 4x200 after finishing in 1:22.31 ... the previous school record was established on April 27, 1990, when Chris Huffins, John Walker, Jon Winebrenner and Jay Kirby posted a mark of 1:24.19 ... the 4x100 squad finished its race in 39.50, eclipsing its previous school record of 39.82, which it recorded in May 2002.

Ohio State Relays Recap: Purdue sent a majority of its roster to compete at the Ohio State Relays ... the one-day event was held in Columbus, Ohio on April 5 ... Gina Harvey led the Boilermakers, collecting wins in the 400-meter dash (52.28) and the 4x100 relay (48.81) ... she later placed fifth in the 200, finishing in 25.90 ... Kim Jordan led a Purdue sweep of the top three places in the 800, finishing in 2:17.09, while teammates Kelly Van Abeele (2:17.91) and Meghan McNeilly (2:18.15) placed second and third ... distance runner Ann Stechschulte, competing unattached, placed first in the 1,500 (4:45.36) ... javelin thrower Angela Anoliefoh recorded her second win in two weeks ... the sophomore registered a launch of 39.19 meters, which was nearly seven meters better than that of runner-up Paola Montoya of Dayton (32.93) ... the pole vault tandem of Katie Rorem and Meg McKenzie stole the top two spots in its event ... Rorem, competing unattached, reached a height of 11-6 1/4 and McKenzie peaked at 11-1/4 ... the men's team's lone win came courtesy of Brad Bolyard, who placed first in the 200 at 22.48 ... in the hammer throw, J.P. Smolenski recorded the fifth-best launch in school history with a fifth-place effort of 59.84 ... Smolenski's mark removed teammate Scott Hecht from the university's top-five list ... Hecht also posted a personal record of 58.48 in the hammer throw 191-10.

Harvey's Heroics: Purdue sophomore Gina Harvey collected two wins at the Ohio State Relays ... the native of Gary, Ind., took the top spot in the 400-meter dash and the 4x100 relay ... Harvey ran the third leg of the 4x100, which finished in 48.81 seconds ... she followed this performance with a triumph in the 400, completing her lap in 58.28 ... Harvey has collected four wins in two weeks during the outdoor season ... won both the 400 and 200 at the season-opening Purdue Invitational.

Excuse Me: Hammer throw specialist John Paul Smolenski recorded the fifth-best launch in school history at the Ohio State Relays on April 5 ... his fifth-place effort of 196-4 meters bumped teammate Scott Hecht off the all-time top-five list, who also posted a career best effort of 191-10.
