Hoosiers On The Horizon: Purdue hosts archrival Indiana on Saturday, May 3 ... the scored dual-meet is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m. at Rankin Track and Field ... the Boilermaker men upended both the Hoosiers and the Ohio State Buckeyes during their indoor meet on Jan. 25 ... the women's team was outscored by Indiana, 115-110, but finished ahead of the Scarlet and Gray.

Caitlin Baird and Kaleena Cappel captured the top two spots in the 3,000 steeplechase ... Baird placed first at 11:02.94 ... Cappel followed close behind at 11:04.94 ... Friday's session at Rankin Track and Field ended well after sundown ... hammer thrower Courtney Magnuson registered a second-place distance of 49.23m (161-06) under dark skies ... Kern Woods placed first in the long jump, registering a distance of 7.36m(24-1 3/4) ... the sophomore later clocked a winning time of 14.51 seconds in the 110-meter hurdles ... Hence Williams squashed the competition in the pole vault with his first-place leap of 5.35m (17-6 1/2) ... Brian Smith's winning javelin throw of 61.92m (203-02), topped Matt Conley of Ball State by over three feet (60.95, 200-00) ... Carrie Long reached an NCAA regional qualifying height of 5-7 in the high jump ... the Boilermaker pole vault trio of Megan Darraugh, Meghan McKenzie and Jocelyn Lindsay qualified for NCAA regionals after all reached a height of 12-0 ... the Boilermaker women received wins on the track from the 4x100 relay team of Ina Jackson, Shanna Carter, LaShauna Harris and Shanette Stewart (47.34), and from Gina Harvey in the 400 (56.85) ... Kyle Orender and Robert Heise stole the top-two spots in the 1,500 ... Orender crossed first in 3:54.71 ... Heise followed right behind at 3:55.89.
Penn Relays Recap: Nedzad Mulabegovic's effort of 18.83m (61-9 1/2) in the shot put placed him third in the championship flight ... Scott Hecht won the college men's shot put title with a mark of 17.80m (58-4 3/4) ... Chris White posted a new personal record in the shot put, with a launch of 16.69m (54-9 1/4) ... the relay squad of Jamar Green, Kenneth Baxter, Jacques Reeves and Prentice Stovall finished sixth in both the 4x100 and 4x200 championships ... the 4x100 team clocked a time of 40.56, and the 4x200 scored a mark of 1:24.70 ... Keith McBride and company excelled in the hammer throw championships ... McBride recorded a career-best mark of 63.49m (208-03), which placed him second ... Hecht finished third with an effort of 60.53m (198-07) and J.P. Smolenski took sixth at 60.45m (198-04).
Drake Relays Recap: Tiffany Britten placed sixth in the shot put with an effort of 14.21m (46-7 1/2) ... Krissy Liphardt placed third in the 100 hurdles with a season best mark of 14.16 seconds ... Liphardt finished 15th in the 400 hurdles at 1:01.61 ... assistant coach Carri Long competed in the special high jump and placed fifth with a leap of 5-10 ... Long faced notables such as Amy Acuff and Gwen Wentland.
Join The Party: Eight Boilermakers qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships during the final weekend of April ... twenty-five athletes from both Purdue teams are slated to compete at the regional meet in Columbus, Ohio from May 30-31 ... Carrie Long reached a height of 1.70 m (5-7) in the high jump ... Kern Woods flew 7.36m (24-1 3/4) in the long jump ... three pole vaulters, Megan Darraugh, Meghan McKenzie and Jocelyn Lindsay, all hit the qualifying standard of 3.66m (12-0) ... Tiffany Britten's sixth-place shot put throw of 14.21m (46-7 1/4) punched her ticket for the meet ... Nedzad Mulabegovic also qualifed in the shot put with an effort of 18.83m (61-9 1/2) ... Chris White joined Mulabegovic with his throw of 16.69m (54-9 1/4).
Woods Wins Two: Kern Woods won two events at the Boilermaker Invitational ... the sophomore placed first in the long jump, reaching a career-best distance of 7.36m (24-1 3/4) ... his mark was a foot better than his previous season best and qualified him for the NCAA Regional Championships ... Woods captured his second victory in the 110-meter hurdles, finishing in 14.51 seconds ... the sophomore led a Boilermaker sweep of the top three places ... Dedrick Tillerson earned runner-up honors (14.56) ... Matt Simmons collected the bronze medal (14.60).
Britten Gets Better: Tiffany Britten's shot put launch of 14.21m (46-7 1/2) placed her sixth at the Drake Relays ... her mark was also a career best and qualified her for NCAA regionals ... Britten's previous best was recorded the weekend previous at the Indy Relays at Butler University.
Hence Reaches New Heights - Again: Hence "Pooh" Williams flew upwards of 17 feet at the Boilermaker Invitational to win the pole vault title ... Williams' winning height of 5.35m (17-6 1/2) is an outdoor season best for the senior ... he reached a height of 5.41m (17-9) during the 2003 indoor campaign ... Williams has steadily improved his leaps over the course of the season ... Williams, who has reached the regional qualifying mark in all five of his attempts, has improved by 1.45 m (1-5 1/2) since the start of the outdoor season.
Respect For This Rodney: Assistant coach Rodney Zuyderwyk currently has six pole vaulters and two javelin chuckers qualified for NCAA regionals ... in the Boilermaker Invitational, the vaulting trio of Megan Darraugh, Meghan McKenzie and Jocelyn Lindsay joined teammates Simona Kovacic and Amy Spellmeyer on the regional qualifier list ... Pooh Williams has qualified for regionals on all five of his flights ... Brian Smith also has quietly qualified for regionals in all three of his javelin attempts ... Angela Anoliefoh was the first of Rodney's students to hit the regional mark ... the sophomore launched the javelin over 142 feet in her first attempt of the outdoor season in the Purdue Invitational on March 29.
Zera's Zoo: Assistant coach John's Zera's throwing troops impressed the competition at the Penn Relays ... Nedzad Mulabegovic, in his first action of the outdoor season, placed third in the shot put championship (18.83m, 61-9 1/2) ... Scott Hecht won a fourth shot put title with a winning launch of 17.80m (58-4 1/4) ... Chris White established a new personal best in the shot put, placing sixth at 16.69m (54-9 1/4) ... three Boilermakers registered high marks in the hammer throw championships ... Keith McBride's second-place effort of 63.49m (208-03) is a career best and is also second best throw in school history ... Hecht hit a career best in the hammer with his fifth-place launch of 60.53m (198-07) ... John Paul Smolenski also hit a personal peak of 60.45m (198-04) ... all four of Zera's hammer throwers are going to the NCAA regionals ... Hecht and Mulabegovic will represent Purdue in the shot put.
No Rust On Nedzad: Sophomore Nedzad Mulabegovic qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in his very first outing of the season ... Mulabegovic, a former NCAA qualifier, placed third in the shot put championships at the Penn Relays, registering a distance of 18.83m (61-9 1/2) ... the native Croatian last competed in March at the NCAA Indoor Championships and placed 10th in the shot put with an effort of 18.73m (61-5 1/2) ... Mulabegovic holds both school shot put records, indoor and outdoor.
Rae Of Light: David Rae scored his third win of the season in the Boilermaker Invitational ... competing in the 10,000, Rae clocked a first-place mark of 31:01.70, the second-best time recorded by a Boilermaker this season ... Rae has picked up a pair of wins in the 3,000 steeplechase this season ... his best steeplechase time (9:15.50) earned him a silver medal at the Pomona Pitzer Invitational.
