CLAREMONT, Calif. - Several members of the Purdue track and field team participated in the Pimona-Pitzer Track Meet in Claremont, Calif., on Friday.
Two Boilermakers finished atop the field in the mixed 10,000-meter run and the women's pole vault.
Senior Simona Kovacic took home top honors in the women's pole vault. She blew the field away with a top height of 13-00.25, a top-five mark in school history. Her nearest competitor was at 12-05.50. Senior Amy Spellmeyer placed 12th in the event with a mark of 11-05.75.
In the mixed 10,000-meter run, junior Robert Heise captured first place with a season-best time of 31:53.08.
Freshmen LaShauna Harris and Shanette Stewart each ran in the women's 100-meter dash. Harris placed 18th after a time of 12.47. Stewart ran the event in 12.48 and placed 19th.
Stewart also ran in the women's 200-meter dash and placed ninth with a time of 25.19. Harris placed 12th after a 25.28. Ina Jackson placed 19th with a time of 25.69 and freshman Ashley Kemp ran the event in 25.82 to place 20th. Stewart, Jackson and Kemp each recorded season-best times.
Junior Kim Jordan placed 19th in the women's 400-meter dash after a time of 57.33. Jackson and Kemp placed 51st and 53rd. Jackson's time was 59.75 and Kemp's was 59.85.
Senior Meghan McNeilly placed 16th in the women's 800-meter run with a time of 2:14.36.
In the women's 1,500-meter run, junior Kara Lahey captured 39th place with a time of 4:51.59.
Two Boilermakers participated in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Junior Krissy Liphardt placed ninth with a season-best time of 14.43. Harris took 20th place with a time of 15.10.
In the women's 400-meter hurdles, Liphardt ran the event with another season-best time of 60.91 to place third. Junior Shannon Kelley placed 20th after running the event in 65.13.
The women's 400-meter relay team of junior Shanna Carter, sophomore Gina Harvey, Harris and Liphardt placed fifth after a time of 47.35.
Jackson placed seventh in the women's long jump with a mark of 19-00.00.
In the 3000-meter men's steeplechase, senior David Rae placed second with a season-best time of 9:15.50. He placed 10 seconds faster than the third place finisher.
Senior Pooh Williams took home second place in the men's pole vault after a mark of 16-08.75. It the season's top mark for Williams.
On Friday at the Mt. SAC Relays, Jordan also competed in the preliminaries of the women's 800-meter run. She placed 8th in the 10-member heat. Jordan recorded the 37th fastest time in the event.
Several Boilermakers will compete in the Mt. SAC Relays on Saturday, the primary day of the event.
