WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team is in second place after two rounds of the 2003 Lady Boilermaker Invitational, which is being held at the at the par 72, 5,900-yard Kampen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ind.
The Boilermakers fired an opening-round score of 300 and carded a 308 in the afternoon session for a one-day total of 608 (+32). Purdue trails Tennessee (605, +29) by three strokes for first place. This is the first year for the Lady Boilermaker Invitational on the Kampen Course.
The 13-team tournament features Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, Kent State, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee and Wisconsin.
Purdue was led by senior Kari Damron, who fired scores of 74 and 75 through the first 36 holes of play. She is currently tied for third place with a 159 (+5) and trails leaders Jessica Shipley of Tennessee and Kristy McPherson of South Carolina by just one stroke.
Beth Hermes (150, +6) is tied for fifth after shooting a 75 in both the first and second rounds and Heather Suhr is tied for eighth after compiling a two-round total of 151 (+7).
Play resumes Sunday morning at 8 a.m. CST for the final 18 holes.
