BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team captured its first title of the season by winning the Indiana Invitational in Bloomington on Sunday. The Boilermakers fired a final-round 305, eight strokes better than any other squad.
The Boilermakers finished 12 strokes in front of second-place Missouri and ahead of five other Big Ten opponents.
Purdue was led by junior Beth Hermes, who fired a final-round 75. She tied for fourth place overall with a three-round 227.
Freshman Onnarin Sattayabanphot collected her best finish of her brief collegiate career with a 229. She tied for sixth after a final-round 75.
Seniors Kari Damron and Heather Suhr each tied for ninth place overall. Damron carded a final-round 75 and Suhr carded an 80 on Sunday. Senior Heather Zielinski placed 17th after a three-round 236.
Freshman Emily Hindman tied for 48th with a 251.
The event was held at the par 74, 6,143-yard Indiana University Golf Course and featured Arkansas-Little Rock, Illinois State, Indiana, Iowa, Kent State, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Notre Dame, Purdue and Wisconsin.
The Boilermakers are in action again on April 12 and 13, when they host the Lady Boilermaker Invitational at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex.
