WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - In a game lacking a lot of offensive fire power, an RBI single to center field helped the Minnesota softball team to eek out a 1-0 win over the Boilermakers in Game 1 of the Sunday doubleheader.

Both teams were fairly quiet over the first two innings, registering a hit apiece. The Golden Gophers scored the lone run of the game in the top of the third on a pair of singles. Third baseman Jordanne Nygren knocked a one-out single to left, before Erin Wallace replaced her on base. Wallace moved to second on a sacrifice bunt and crossed the plate as a Hailee Nanchy fly ball landed just in front of a diving Andrea Roush in center field a play later.

The teams combined for five hits in the contest. Senior Jesse Jones tallied both hits for the Boilermakers, a single past the pitcher in the second and a single through the right side in the fifth. Minnesota tabbed the first hit in the game with a single up the middle to lead off the second inning.

Gopher ace Piper Marten struck out 13 Boilermakers, upping her tally to 39 in three games on the weekend. Senior Leighann Burke K'ed four Golden Gophers in her seven inning effort.

Purdue will look to get the game back in the Big Ten standings with a win in the night cap.
