PURDUE INVITE RECAP: The Boilermakers' opened their 2003 outdoor season with the Purdue Invitational (3/28-29) ... competitors from Ball State, Butler, Dayton, Illinois, Indiana, IPFW, Louisville and Valporaiso also took part in the two-day meet ... Marquette cancelled its appearance due to inclement weather ... athletes braved blustery conditions, rain and cold weather during first day of competition ... temperatures hovered in the 40-degree range for most of the second day ... women's team recorded 10 wins, including two by sprinter Gina Harvey (200 and 400 meters) ... javelin thrower Angela Anoliefoh qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships with a launch of 43.46 meters ... men's squad recorded 14 wins over the two-day stretch ... junior Scott Hecht led the men's team with victories in the discus and shot put competitions ... Hecht's marks in the shot put (16.43) and hammer throw (58.43) qualified him for the regional meet ... a total of 11 male Boilermakers qualified for regionals in the opening weekend ... meet was a non-scoring affair.

HECHT'S HEAVES: Scott Hecht started his junior outdoor campaign at the Purdue Invitational with wins in the shot put and discus and a third-place showing in the hammer throw ... qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships in the hammer and shot put ... his hammer swing of 58.43 meters established a career best and is currently the fifth-best mark in school history ... also recorded a career best launch of 50.01 in the discus ... shot put attempt landed at the 16.43 mark.

TWO RACES, TWO WINS: Sophomore Gina Harvey led the women's squad with two victories at the Purdue Invitational ... picked up victories in the 200 and 400 meter dashes ... completed the 400 in 58.63 seconds ... tied her career best time in the 200 with a mark of 25.94.

LONG DISTANCE RUNAROUND: Purdue distance runners Kyle Orender and Amber Ferner started their outdoor seasons on the road at the Stanford Invitational ... Ferner clocked a regional qualifying time of 10:49.75 in the 3,000 steeplechase and Orender placed ninth in the 10,000, finishing at 29:53.10.

COMING UP: The Boilermakers should expect warmer conditions this weekend when they head to the University of Texas for the Texas Relays ... competition begins in the "Lone Star State" on Thursday, April 3, and runs through April 5.

ROAD TRIPPING: Purdue will be spending almost all of April on the road starting this weekend in Ausitn, Texas ... after their jaunt in Texas, the Boilermakers head for meets in Knoxville, Tenn. (4/11-12), Oxford, Ohio (4/12), Walnut Creek, Calif. (4/17-19) and Indianapolis, Ind. (4/19) ... Purdue's next meet at Rankin Track and Field is scheduled for April 25, for the Boilermaker Invitational.
