Final Stats

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue finished a sweep of its first two Boilermaker Invitational games with an identical 8-0 win over Loyola (Chicago).

Senior Jesse Jones lifted her second long ball of the day over the center field wall, this time a three-run effort in the top of the first, to give the Boilermakers all they needed to clinch the victory. Jones knocked in senior Angi Roembke and sophomore Andrea Hillsey, who tallied back-to-back, one-out base hits.

Hillsey scored again as senior Andrea Roush bulleted a triple to center in the third stanza. The second baseman tallied a double of her own, to get on base. The Boilermakers recorded their fifth round tripper of the day as senior Heidi Foster launched a solo shot to center field to lead off the fifth.

Freshman Tricia Lilley sealed the victory for Purdue with a two-run bomb to center field, scoring junior Angela Knight from first. Pinch hitter Becky Stone walked to give the Boilermakers a base runner and Knight subbed back in to run for her.

The Old Gold and Black scored eight runs on nine hits, while committing one error. Loyola tallied three hits in the losing effort. Freshman Diana LaRiva struck out 10 batters, while moving to 6-5 with the win. Freshman Lindsey LaChiana dropped to 4-3 on the year with the loss.

Hillsey went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Purdue returns to action at 1 p.m. Sunday against IPFW.

In other day one action, Gardner Webb topped Butler 9-0 and Michigan recorded a pair of wins over IPFW and Butler, 10-0 and 3-0.
