WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's golf team is in 14th place after the first round of the Lady Gamecock Classic, hosted by South Carolina. The Boilermakers carded a 321 on the first 18 holes, played Friday.
Wake Forest finished the day with a low score of 296 in the field of 15. Duke carded a 300 for second place, with Texas trailing by one stroke. South Carolina and Auburn tied for fourth with 302s.
Senior Heather Suhr currently is in a seven-way tie for 30th place after shooting a 78. Freshman Onnarin Sattayabanphot is one stroke behind at 79, tying for 37th.
Seniors Heather Zielinski and Kari Damron shot an 80 and 84, respectively, tying for 48th and 67th.
The day's leaders were Duke's Leigh Anne Hardin, New Mexico State's Alena Sharp and South Carolina's Kacy Thompson. All three players shot par 72s.
The 54-hole tournament, which is being played at the University Club in Blythewood, S.C., will resume on Saturday, March 15, before concluding on Sunday, March 16.
