March 13, 2003

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Two Boilermakers scored NCAA provisional marks in the weight throw on Friday at the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame.

Juniors Scott Hecht and Keith McBride improved their Big Ten meet performances by more than a meter. Hecht won the event with a throw of 20.28/66 6-1/2, and McBride finished third at 19.85m/65 1-1/2.

In the long jump, sophomore Jamar Green's jump (7.07m/23 2-1/2) was good enough to win the event. His earlier Big Ten meet jump (7.34m/24-1) provisionally qualified him for the NCAA Championships March 14-15 in Fayetteville, Ark.

Senior Simona Kovacic competed in the pole vault, but results of that event were not immediately available.

Track events will be held on Saturday, when senior Prentice Stovall, junior Kenneth Baxter, junior Jacques Reeves and junior Joey Harris will run the 60-meter dash. The quartet swept the event at the Big Ten Championships with times of 6.71, 6.72, 6.78 and 6.81 seconds. Reeves also will run the 200 meters - he placed second to Baxter at the Big Ten meet with a time of 21.47 - while redshirt freshman Jerod Void will run the 60-meter hurdles.
