HUMACAO, P.R. - The Purdue women's golf team finished in 11th place in the inaugural Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
The event was held at the par-72, 6,000-yard Palmas Del Mar Country Club Course.
Purdue fired a final-round 312. The Boilermakers totaled a 927 over the two-day event. Duke won the event after totaling an 872.
The Boilermakers were led by senior Heather Zielinski, who fired a final-round 75. She tied for 10th overall with a three-day total of 222.
Junior Beth Hermes totaled a 232 and tied for 38th. She fired a final-round 79. Senior Heather Suhr carded a 77 in the final round and tied for 47th.
Freshman Onnarin Sattayabanphot carded an 81 on Saturday and tied for 54th overall.
Senior Kari Damron totaled a 245 after a final-round 84. She tied for 67th overall.
The 15-team tournament featured 12 of the top 30 teams in Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings. No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Auburn, No 5 and 2002 National Champion Duke, No.7 Texas, No. 16 Tulsa, No. 17 Florida, No. 20 South Carolina and No. 21 Purdue headline the field.
Georgia, Kent State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wake Forest and Wisconsin rounded out the field.
Eight of the top 25 individuals in the collegiate game were in the field.
The Boilermakers will be in action again in the Lady Gamecock Classic from March 14 to 16 in Columbia, S.C.
