HUMACAO, P.R. - The Purdue women's golf team is in 12th place after 36 holes of the inaugural Lady Puerto Rico Classic in Humacao, Puerto Rico.
The event is being held at the par-72, 6,000-yard Palmas Del Mar Country Club Course.
Purdue fired a first-round 307 and an afternoon 308 for a first-day 615. Duke leads the event after carding first-day 579. The Boilermakers trail Kent State by 10 strokes for sixth place.
The Boilermakers were led by senior Heather Zielinski, who fired a first-round 74 and a second-round 73. She is tied for sixth overall with a 147.
Junior Beth Hermes carded a 153 on the first day and is tied for 34th overall. She carded a second-round 75.
Freshman Onnarin Sattayabanphot carded a morning 78 and an afternoon 79 and is tied for 54th place overall with a 157.
Senior Heather Suhr fired a first-day 158 and is tied for 57th overall.
Senior Kari Damron is tied 66th, after shooting an 80 in the first round and an 81 in the second.
The 15-team tournament features 12 of the top 30 teams in Golfweek/Sagarin Rankings. No. 2 Oklahoma State, No. 4 Auburn, No 5 and 2002 National Champion Duke, No.7 Texas, No. 16 Tulsa, No. 17 Florida, No. 20 South Carolina and No. 21 Purdue headline the field.
Georgia, Kent State, Missouri, Oklahoma, Wake Forest and Wisconsin round out the field.
Eight of the top 25 individuals in the collegiate game are in the field.
The final round will begin with a shotgun start at 7 p.m. EST on Saturday.
