Lindsay Lange Wins 100 Breaststroke Title At 2003 Big Ten's

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue continued to roll on in fifth place on Friday night, as senior Lindsay ?Lange won the 100 breaststroke title after two years as runner-up. The Boilermakers still sit in fifth place after three ?days with 268 points. Leader Indiana has 400 points and second-place Wisconsin has tallied 383. ?

In the night's first event, the 400 medley relay, the Boilermaker record-holding team of seniors Lisa ?Dolansky, Lange, Patricia Finnerty and Kim Paradeise finished third with a time of 3:41.73 for an NCAA 'B'-cut ?mark. ?

Next was the 400 individual medley with junior Jenni Bean. In the morning session, she swam a time of ??4:21.88 and in the finals tonight, Bean tallied an NCAA 'B'-cut time of 4:21.31 for sixth place.?

In the 100 butterfly, Finnerty swam in the consolation heat and finished ninth for a time of 55.24 to ?improve her all-time top time on the Boilermaker career list. That time was also an NCAA 'B'-cut mark. ?

In the 200 freestyle finals, freshman Erica Chandler swam a time of 1:49.62, but recorded the Purdue ?freshman record in the morning session with a time of 1:49.31. Both times were NCAA 'B'-cut marks.?

Junior Lindsay Kirchoff finished 15th in the 100 breaststroke, scoring her first points at the Big Ten meet. ?Her time of 1:05.03 was one one-hundredth of a second faster than her morning swim for a lifetime-best time.?

In the 100 backstroke, senior Lisa Dolansky finished fourth in her fourth and final 100 backstroke finals at ?the Big Ten meet. With a time of 55.66, she recorded a 'B'-cut mark. ?

On the 3-meter diving board, freshman Carrie McCambridge tallied the first top-eight finish of her career ?with a score of 471.25. She finished eighth for the Boilermakers, scoring 11 points.?

And, finally in the 100 breaststroke, after a long awaited journey and two runner-up finishes, senior ?Lindsay Lange won her first Big Ten title. With a time of 1:00.47, she swam away from the competition after ?recording a Holloway Pool record time and a Purdue varsity record time of 1:00.42 in the morning session.?

The Boilermakers will return to the pool on Saturday morning for the final prelims session of the ?Championships. On the schedule for Saturday is the 200 back, the 100 free, the 200 breast, the 200 butterfly, the ??1,650 free and platform diving. In the night's session, the 400 freestyle relay will also swim as the final event of the ?weekend.?
