Women's Golf Tied For Sixth Place

PALOS VERDES, Calif. - The Purdue women's golf team is tied for sixth place at the eighth annual Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. The event is being hosted by Ohio State, at the par-71, 5,912-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club.

The Boilermakers fired a first-round 303 and trail second-place UCLA by 11 strokes for second place. Pepperdine leads the event after a first-round 284.

Purdue was led by senior Heather Zielinski carded a one-over 72. She is tied for eighth overall.

Freshman Onnarin Sattayabanphot, who hails from Thailand, carded a first-round 76. Sattayabanphot is tied for 28th overall.

Senior Heather Suhr fired a 77 and is tied for 39th overall. Senior Kari Damron, an All-Big Ten selection last season, carded a first-round 78 and is tied for 50th.

Junior Beth Hermes fired a 79 and is tied for 58th overall.

All 18 of the teams in the field are ranked in the top 50 in the Golfweek/Sagarin Poll and 17 of the squads participated in last seasons NCAA Championships.
