STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Chris Booker scored 27 points and hit two free throws with seven seconds left to lead Purdue to an 82-78 victory over Penn State on Saturday.
Brandon Watkins had a chance to tie the game at 80 with 8.6 seconds left, but missed his first foul shot. Watkins intentionally missed his second shot, hoping that Jan Jagla could tip the ball and give Penn State another possession.
But Booker got the rebound, was fouled and gave Purdue a four-point lead with his two foul shots.
Purdue (11-3, 3-0 Big Ten) led by 13 points with 17:57 left, but Penn State went on a 22-3 run to take its biggest lead, 57-51, on a Sharif Chambliss 3-pointer with 11:45 left.
Booker finished 11-for-12 from the foul line and had three 3-point plays in the second half. Willie Deane scored 21 points for Purdue, which led 42-35 at the half, and Kenneth Lowe added 11.
Freshman walk-on Aaron Johnson led Penn State (5-9, 0-3) with a career-high 20 points and 12 rebounds, including 7 offensive rebounds. Chambliss scored 19 points and was 8-for-8 from the foul line while Watkins finished with 15.
