WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Willie Deane scored 17 points to lead Purdue to an 84-56 victory over Colorado State Monday night, snapping the Rams' six-game winning streak.
Kenneth Lowe scored in double figures for the second straight game with 14 points for Purdue and Chris Booker added 13 points and five rebounds.
The Boilermakers are off to a 7-3 start for the first time since the 1999-2000 season and are 6-0 at Mackey Arena.
The Rams (10-3), who had been averaging more than 83 points a game, committed seven turnovers in their first nine possessions as the Boilermakers jumped to an early 26-8 lead.
Colorado State finished with a season-high 27 turnovers, the fifth time this season the Rams have committed 20 or more turnovers.
The Rams staged a brief rally late in the first half to close to 30-19, but Booker extended Purdue's lead with a free throw and a dunk to make it 42-25.
The game was the first between the schools since a 72-59 Purdue victory on Nov. 29, 1980. It was Gene Keady's first win as Purdue's coach.
Keady is in his 23rd season as head coach of the Boilermakers. Since the 1980-81 season, Colorado State has had five different head coaches.
