Men's Golf Drops First-Round Match

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The Purdue men's golf team dropped its match against top-seeded Clemson, 3-2, in the first round of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship on Friday morning. The afternoon match against Toledo was suspsended due to darkness. Play will resume Saturday morning. The Boilermakers trail Toledo, 3-2 with seven holes to play.

The event is being held at the par 72, 7,343-yard Dye Course at Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and is a double elimination team match-play format.

Junior Shiv Kapur and senior Peter Karmis won their first-round matches as the Boilermakers gave the Tigers all they could handle.

The tournament is filled with the top 16 teams from last seasons' NCAA Championships. The field consists of Arizona, Augusta State, Clemson, Colorado, Florida, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, N.C. State, Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, Purdue, TCU, Texas, Toledo, Tulsa and Washington.

The second round will conclude Saturday mornings and the third round will begin that afternoon. Results can be tracked live at www.golfstat.com.
