MYRTLE BEACH, N.C. - The 16th-seeded Purdue men's golf team dropped a 3-2 decision to Tulsa in the consolation bracket finals of the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship on Sunday.
The Boilermakers dropped their first-round match 3-2, to No. 1 seed Clemson. In the consolation bracket Purdue knocked off ninth-seeded Toledo and 12th-seeded Pepperdine before falling to the Golden Hurricane.
In the loss to Tulsa senior Chris Mayson and freshman Dustin Cone each garnered victories.
The event was held at the par 72, 7,343-yard Dye Course at Barefoot Resort in Myrtle Beach, S.C. and was a double elimination team match-play format.
The tournament was filled with the top 16 teams from last seasons' NCAA Championships. The field consists of Arizona, Augusta State, Clemson, Colorado, Florida, Georgia Tech, Minnesota, N.C. State, Oklahoma State, Pepperdine, Purdue, TCU, Texas, Toledo, Tulsa and Washington.
The tournament concludes the fall season for the Boilermakers, who are in action again on Feb. 2, in a match against Arizona State in Tempe, Ariz.
