KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The No. 17 Purdue women's golf team is in sixth place after two rounds of the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. The event is being played at the par 72, 5,985-yard Gettysvue Polo, Golf and Country Club.
The Boilermakers fired a second-round 309 and trail Florida and the Swedish Junior National team by 10 strokes for first place.
Senior All-America candidate Kari Damron led the Boilermakers with a second-round 74. Damron has totaled 148 over the first two rounds and is in seventh place overall.
Senior Heather Zielinski and junior Beth Hermes carded a pair of 79s on the day. The duo fired 75 on Friday and are both tied for 24th place overall at 10-over par.
Senior Heather Suhr is tied for 36th after a second-round 79. Junior Ella Asbun carded a 78 and is tied for 41st.
The Boilermakers are the tournaments' defending champions after firing a 902 last year. Purdue senior Kari Damron captured the individual title last season after carding a one-over 217.
The final round begins on Sunday at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live scoring will be provided by www.golfstat.com.
