DALTON, Ga. - The Purdue men's golf team is in 18th place after the first round of the Carpet Capital Classic in Dalton, Ga. The event continues through the weekend, and is being hosted by Georgia Tech.

Senior Chris Mayson led the Boilermakers after a first-round 71 and is tied for 13th place. Senior Peter Karmis carded a four-over 76 and is tied for 56th place.

Sophomore Dustin Cone is tied for 78th place after shooting a first-round 78.

Juniors Ryan Barauskas and Ryan Masuda carded an 81 and 83 and are in 86th and 87th place.

The Boilermakers tee off in the second round on Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. EST.

"It was a rough first day," said head coach Devon Brouse. "In order to be the team we want to be, we need to have four guys play well each round and we struggled in that area today."

The Boilermakers compete four times in the fall and are in action again on Oct. 7 to 8, at the NCAA Fall Preview in Stillwater, Okla.
