WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Three pole vaulters picked up NCAA marks en route to second-place finishes at the Billy Hayes Invitational on Saturday in Bloomington. Hence "Pooh" Williams cleared the bar at 5.25m/17-2.75 on the men's side, while Katie Rorem and Simona Kovacic tied on the women's side with a mark of 3.81m/12-6.00.
Keith McBride also scored a NCAA mark in the hammer throw. His toss of 61.33m/201-3.00 gave him a third-place finish in the event. McBride also placed second in the discus with a mark of 50.36m/165-3.00. Teammate Nick Swathwood was third in the event with a throw of 50.34m/165-2.00.
Kim Jordan won the 800m run with a new season-best time of 2:09.63. Kelly VanAbeele came in second with a season-best of 2:11.15.
T'Nita Waters and Shanna Carter both ran respective season-best times in the 100m dash and 200m dash. Waters' time of 11.91 landed her in fifth place, while Carter finished eighth in 24.92. Shannon Kelly placed fourth in the 400m hurdles in 1:02.77.
Joe Thomas won the high jump with a mark of 2.06m/6-9.00. Jan Eichenauer leaped a Boilermaker season-best in the long jump with a mark of 5.77m/18-11.25. Janelle Johnson placed third in the triple jump with a mark of 11.92m/39-1.25.
Cynthia Bortz and Lisa Davis went two and three in the hammer with respective throws of 53.73m/176-4.00 and 49.73m/163-2.00. Chris White and Swathwood went three and four in the shot put with throws of 17.11m/56-1.75 and 17.08m/56-0.50. Brian Smith finished fourth in the javelin with a mark of 60.43m/198-3.00, while Tiffany Britten did the same in the shot at 14.09m/46-2.75.

Barbara Wenger won the 1,500m run in 4:36.25 at the Illini Twilight Meet on Friday night. Chris Boesch earned a second-place finish in the 1,500m run in 3:56.80. Tom Aliff finished third in the 400m hurdles in 53.94. Jacques Reeves placed fifth in the 200m dash in 22.05.
