UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Purdue softball team dropped two one-run games to Penn State on Sunday.
Coach Carol Bruggeman was disappointed in the weekend trip east after coming up short against Ohio State on Friday and Saturday. The Boilermakers are now 31-22 overall and 2-10 in Big Ten play.
"We played competitively in these last three games on Saturday and Sunday, but we came up short," she said.
In the first game, Purdue jumped out to an early 5-2 lead after scoring five runs in the top of the second. The Lady Lions tied the score in the bottom of the inning. Purdue took the lead again in the top of the third, 7-5, before Penn State came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth for the final 8-7 tally. Senior Nicole Crouse (11-8) took the loss for the Boilermakers.
In the second game, which Purdue lost 2-1, both teams were scoreless through five innings before the Lady Lions put up two runs and the Boilermakers one in the sixth. Junior Leighann Burke (13-10) took the loss for the Boilermakers.
