COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Purdue men's golf team finished in third place after the final round of the Kepler-Cleveland Intercollegiate was cancelled due to heavy thunderstorms. The event was hosted by Ohio State and held at the University Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. Final round action never began as the players were instructed to be ready for a shotgun start. As the rain persisted, the final round was called off at 10 a.m.
The Boilermakers carded a two-round 582 and trailed UNLV by six strokes for first place. Colorado finished second with a 579. Purdue was the highest finishing Big Ten member in the field. Nine of the 17 teams in the tournament hailed from the Big Ten.
The rainout gave All-America candidate Lee Williamson the individual title. Williamson fired a 68 in the second round on Saturday and totaled a 139 over two days. It is Williamson's first first-place finish of the season. He now has five top-five finishes this year.
Freshman Dustin Cone recorded an even-par 71 in the second round and tied for seventh place with a 144. Sophomore Shiv Kapur tied for 17th after a second-round 73 and two-day total of 147.
Junior Chris Mayson tied for 50th after a second-round 77 and two-day total of 152. Senior Jason Bukowski carded a 79 and tied for 82nd with a 152.
The Boilermakers are in action again May 3 through 5 at the Big Ten Championships in Iowa City, Iowa.
