WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Senior Ryan Fitzpatric leaped an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 2.21m/7-3.00 in the high jump at Miami of Ohio on Saturday. Fitzpatric's lifetime best mark places him in a two-way tie for first in the nation in the high jump.
"This is a great accomplishment for Ryan," head coach Lissa Olson said. "He is an extremely hard worker and to see his hard work pay off is remarkable. I am very proud of him."
Both Serene Ross and Ebbie Metzinger earned qualifying marks in their respective events, the hammer and pole vault, at the Miami (Ohio) meet.
Action also came to an end at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville. Scott Hecht won the open shot put event with a throw of 17.32m/56-10.00. Keith McBride placed fifth in the hammer with a throw of 57.86m/186-10.00. The men's 4x100m relay team won their heat and placed fifth overall with a time of 40.14, .04 second off of an NCAA qualifying time.
