Purdue Picks Up Win Over Illinois State

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team defeated Illinois State 6-1, today.

Head coach Mat Iandolo was glad that the team came out determined and played aggressively.

"We came out and took it to them," Iandolo said. "We had a quick start on all three courts in doubles and it helped us to finish strong in singles.

"Iqbal had a tough match. She showed great mental strength and stayed positive to produce a win."

Purdue won all three doubles matches to win the point.

The ranked Boilermakers upsetting Illinois State's ranked team highlighted doubles. No. 54 sophomore Gretchen Haynor and junior Missy Wright defeated the No. 1 doubles tandem in the region and 23rd- ranked in the nation Liina Suurvarik and Alesia Mikalayeva 8-6 at the No. 1 position.

In singles, No. 122 junior Melissa Iqbal upset No. 80 Suurvarik 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. Purdue went on to win at the No. 3, 4, 5, and 6 spots all in straight sets.

The Boilermakers will continue conference play against No. 47 Ohio State and Penn State on April 13 and 14 at home.
