WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team defeated Minnesota 5-2 at Minneapolis, today.

Purdue head coach Mat Iandolo was pleased with the team's intensity and effort.

"We came out and took care of business," Iandolo said. "It felt good to win on an away court within the conference. I hope we built some confidence to head into Sunday's match against Wisconsin."

The afternoon began by the Boilermakers winning the doubles point.

At the No. 2 doubles position, senior Lynsey Fick and sophomore Melissa Woods defeated Andrea Rose and Kelly Perry 8-5. Junior Melissa Iqbal and rookie Lara Burgarello upended Jennifer Howard and Brandi Watts 8-3 at the No. 3 spot.

In singles, Woods defeated Rose 6-2, 2-6, (10-8) at the No. 3 spot. Burgarello upended Perry 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 position. Freshman Shawna Zuccarini defeated Kandis Batiste 6-4, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot and rookie teammate Amy Walgenbach defeated Cici Anderson 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 6 spot.

The Boilermakers ended the day with a 3-2 conference record. The tennis team will head to Madison to face No. 35 Wisconsin on Sunday, April 7.
