BROWN SUMMIT, N.C. - The Purdue women's golf team is in seventh place after the first round of the Bryan National Collegiate.
The Boilermakers fired a first-round 299 and are merely six strokes out of third place. Duke leads the event after carding a one-under 287.
Junior Heather Zielinski fired an even-par 72 and is tied for seventh place overall. Senior Christy Rittenhouse is tied for 12th after carding a 73. Seniors Andrea Makauskas and Caroline Laurens shot a 76 and 78 on the day. Makauskas is tied for 33rd while Laurens is tied for 53rd. Sophomore Beth Hermes is tied for 62nd after a first-round 79.
The event is being held at the 5,997-yard, par-72 Bryan Park Champions Golf Course. The second round begins on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. EST. The event will conclude on Sunday.
