Boilermakers Fall To Indiana In Titan Series Competition

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team fell to No. 41 Indiana in Bloomington, today.

The Hoosiers continue to lead the Titan Series 8-5 after today's victory.

The Boilermakers were unable to practice outdoors this week due to the weather. They finally stepped outside an hour before today's competition.

Purdue head coach Mat Iandolo feels that they now know what they need to do to become a better team.

"We need to fight a little harder and be more determined," Iandolo said. "Indiana competed really well and they tried to make us finish. They put balls on the court while we played slow. We have our first Big Ten outdoors match under our belt and now we need to move forward."

Junior Melissa Iqbal and sophomore Lara Burgarello upended Amanda Field and Jessica Levin 8-5 at the No. 3 doubles spot.

The Boilermakers two points came from the singles competition. At the No. 2 spot, sophomore Gretchen Haynor defeated Linda Tran and at the No. 6 position rookie Amy Walgenbach defeated Martina Grimm all in straight sets.

The Boilermakers will travel to Minneapolis to compete against Minnesota on Friday, April 6. The dual match will be played indoors. On Sunday, April 7 the tennis team will face No. 35 Wisconsin. The last home match will be on Wednesday, April 10 against Illinois State at 1 p.m. The dual match is scheduled to play outdoors.
