Men's Golf In Fifth Place In Conrad Rehling Invitational

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Purdue men's golf team is in fifth place after the first round of the Conrad Rehling Invitational in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The event is being hosted by the University of Alabama.

The Boilermakers fired a nine-over 293 in the event's first round. Minnesota leads the event after carding a 282.

Senior Lee Williamson carded a four-under 67 and is tied for the tournament lead. Williamson had a 31 on the back nine and is one of 10 individuals to finish the first round under par.

Junior Peter Karmis is tied for 14th after firing a 72. Sophomore Shiv Kapur and freshman Dustin Cone are both tied for 43rd after recording a pair of 77's. Junior Chris Mayson carded a 78 and is tied for 50th.

"Lee played excellent today," said associate coach Andrew Sapp. "We are looking forward to tomorrow because our guys know they can play better and since we are in fifth place we are still in striking distance."

The event is being held at the Capstone Club. The second round begins tomorrow at 8 p.m. EST and the event will conclude with 18 holes on Sunday.
