WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue's first outdoor match serves as a warm-up for the rest of the season. The Boilermakers lost 6-1 to No. 12 North Carolina in Tempe, Ariz. today.
Purdue head coach Mat Iandolo is pleased with the team's effort and aggressiveness.
At the No. 3 spot in doubles, junior Melissa Iqbal and freshman Lara Burgarello defeated Lee Bairos and Kate Pinchbeck 8-5.
In singles, Burgarello upeneded Aniela Mojzis 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot.
"This was a good win for Lara," Iandolo said. "It came at a good time because she needed it to boost her confidence and to finish the season strong."
The Boilermakers will take on No. 9 Arizona State on Saturday, March 16 in Arizona.
