Men's Golf Places Third In Puerto Rico Classic

PALMER, P.R. -- The Purdue men's golf team fired a final-round 286 to finish in third place in the Puerto Rico Classic on Tuesday. The Boilermakers have a three-day total of 857. Georgia Tech won the tournament with a total of 829. Clemson finished just ahead of Purdue with a total score of 854.

The Boilermakers were led by senior All-America candidate Lee Williamson, who fired a final-round 67 and finished second place overall with a nine-under 207. Junior Chris Mayson finished with a final-round 73 and finished in a ninth-place tie.

Sophomore Shiv Kapur fired off a two-under 70 and finished 16th with a 216 total. Freshman Dustin Cone shot a third-round 76 to finish tied for 28th. Senior Peter Karmis carded a 77 on the final round and finished in a tie for 67th.

"Another good showing for us today," said Purdue head coach Devon Brouse. "Lee (Williamson) had an incredible tournament and it was good to see Shiv (Kapur) shoot under par. Playing with the No. 1 and 2 teams in the country was a great experience for our guys."

The Boilermakers next play in the Conrad Rehling Invitational on March 15-17.
