WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team were edged 4-3 by BYU. The Boilermakers, now 1-4 on the season, felt the loss of No. 4 singles player, Lara Burgarello, who was out with the flu.

"This was a hard fought match, and we were pleased to put ourselves in the position to win despite the fact Lara was out sick," head coach Mat Iandolo said. "It felt good to see our players step up to the challenge."

The Boilermakers got out to a 1-0 lead after claiming the doubles point. Missy Wright and Gretchen Haynor defeated Brooke Beverely and Dominique Reynolds 9-8 at the No. 1 position. Melissa Woods and Lynsey Fick defeated Lindsay Ferrell and Elizaveta Khoudiarova 8-3 for the No. 2 spot win.

Melissa Iqbal earned the next Purdue point by defeating Beverly 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles. Rookie Amy Walgenbach defeated Nicole Schneider 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 at the No. 6 position. The Cougars won the No. 2-5 singles positions to take the match 4-3.
