WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue wrestling team traveled to Columbia, Mo., to face Missouri and Missouri Valley College, but came up short with an 18-16 loss to No. 16 Missouri.
Freshman Chris Fleeger (125) continued his winning ways by defeating Missouri's Mark Bader 13-4, at 125.
Jake Vercelli also continued his strong start by defeating Kevin Herron, 7-4, in the heavyweight class.
Ryan Lange had a successful day with a win over No. 8 John Kopnisky in the 174 weight class.
Others who won their matches against Missouri included Rene Hernandez (133) and Brad Harper (157), who defeated Jon Sioredas in a tension-filled sudden death match.
The Boilermakers defeated Missouri Valley 36-3 in their other contest of the day.
"We had a couple of close matches," said head coach Jessie Reyes. "Fleeger and Vercelli continued to dominate their opponents. We just made some little mistakes overall that cost us the meet against Missouri. "
Purdue returns to action by hosting the Purdue Duals on Dec. 16.
