WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team competed in the consolation semifinals of singles and quarterfinals of doubles in the tournament today.
Head coach Mat Iandolo feel that they have a solid doubles program.
"Both doubles teams showed competitiveness and played against each other with high intensity," Iandolo said. "Junior Melissa Woods showed great athleticism and talent considering she has not played for eight months."
In the quarterfinals of doubles, senior Lynsey Fick paired with Woods defeated their own teammates, sophomore Gretchen Haynor and junior Missy Wright, 8-3.
In the consolation semifinals of singles, Haynor lost to Virginia Commonwealth's 14th- ranked Martina Nedelkova 6-1, 6-2.
Fick and Woods will continue to play in the finals of doubles beginning Sunday at 2 p.m. Full results for the Milwaukee Tennis Classic can be found at www.milwaukeetennisclassic.org.
