LAS VEGAS (AP) - Willie Deane scored Purdue's final nine points in overtime to lead the Boilermakers to an 84-83 victory over Southwest Missouri State in the second round of the Las Vegas Classic on Thursday night.
Deane's off-balance layup off the glass with 2.4 seconds left sealed the win for Purdue (7-4).
He finished with a career-high 31 points and added nine rebounds.
Maynard Lewis came off the bench to score 14 points and grab six rebounds for Purdue.
Southwest Missouri State had one last shot to tie the game, but Mike Wallace's jumper off the inbounds pass clanged off the rim at the buzzer.
The Bears (4-5) were led by Wallace, who finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Southwest Missouri State's Terrance McGee put the Bears ahead 83-82 when he drove the lane for a lay-up with eight seconds left.
Southwest Missouri State jumped out to an 6-0 lead before Deane put Purdue on the scoreboard with a 3-pointer that sparked a 16-4 run to help Purdue take its first lead of the game.
