WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue volleyball team got off to a good start, but were defeated 30-26, 21-30, 19-30, 19-30 by No. 10 Ohio State. The Boilermakers fall to 3-19 (1-13 Big Ten), while the Buckeyes improve to 20-2 (12-2 Big Ten).

"As the match wore on we had less and less penetrations and we wore down our outside blockers," Hulsmeyer said. "It's a learning experience and our teams get a great opportunity to play top-notch teams in the Big Ten and the nation."

The Boilermakers made only one error on 32 attempts in a phenomenal Game 1 showing. Purdue trailed only one time in the game at 6-5. The Boilermakers went on a 5-2 run to take a 10-7 lead. Kills from Phillips and Lowry, an out-of-bounds error by the Buckeyes and an ace from Knicker extended the Purdue lead to 14-10. The Boilermakers continued their reign by going on an 8-6 run, bringing the score to 22-16. Ohio State went on a 5-1 run of its own to get within two. But they would get no closer as the Boilermakers went on to win 30-26.

The Buckeyes showed why they are among the nation's best by holding Purdue to 21, 19 and 19 points respectively in Games 2, 3 and 4

Senior Maegan Petersen led the Boilermakers with 15 kills and 10 digs. Ohio State's Stacey Gordon turned in 30 kills.

Purdue will host Indiana State on Tuesday.
