WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Rylan Hainje scored 25 points and Thomas Jackson had 21 as Butler rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat Purdue 74-68 Tuesday.
Joel Cornette snapped a 63-63 tie with a dunk with 2:20 left in the game. Hainje followed with a 3-pointer on the next possession and Scott Robisch made it 70-66 with 41.5 seconds left. The Bulldogs (5-0) sealed the win with free throws.
The Boilermakers (2-2) opened the second half on a 17-3 run to lead 49-35 midway through the second half. Butler sliced the deficit to 58-50 after a 3-pointer by Hainje. Hainje was 4-for-8 from 3-point range.
Maynard Lewis, who led Purdue with 18 points, put the lead back to 10 with a basket. Then the Bulldogs went on an 11-0 run and held Purdue without a point for nearly four minutes. Hainje scored the final six points of the run.
Willie Deane evened the score at 63 with 2:29 to go.
Deane scored 17, Darmetreis Kilgore had 13 and John Allison 10 for Purdue. The Boilermakers have lost two straight games.
Purdue took a 20-10 lead early in the first half that the Bulldogs cut to 20-17 following a Jackson 3-pointer. The lead was stretched back nine before the Bulldogs closed out the half on a 9-2 run. Hainje scored three straight baskets, converting a steal into a layup and then making a 3 as time expired to make it 32-30.
Butler snapped a 12-game losing streak against Purdue dating back to 1968. It was Butler's first win in West Lafayette since 1954.
