WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team competed at the Brown Invitational in Providence, R.I., and at the ITA All-American Championships at UCLA today.
Head coach Mat Iandolo felt good about the Boilermakers' showing.
"I am pleased with the way the women played," Iandolo said. "They had good competition considering Gretchen Haynor and Melissa Iqbal were at UCLA competing."
Iandolo is looking forward to seeing junior Missy Wright and freshman Shawna Zuccarini play tomorrow.
Wright will be playing in Flight 3 of the consolation round, while Zuccarini will compete in the back draw of the second flight.
At the ITA All-American Championships, Haynor and Iqbal played in the prequalifying rounds of singles and doubles.
Haynor defeated Northern Arizona's Yvonne DeWaal 6-2, 6-2 in the first round, but fell to UCLA's Petya Marinova 7-5, 6-2 in round two.
In the first round, Iqbal dominated Fresno State's Courtney Jantz 6-0, 6-2. Iqbal lost a heartbreaker to Texas A&M's Majorie Terburgh 7-5, 7-5 in the second round of singles.
Haynor and Iqbal played as a team in the prequalifying rounds of doubles and fell to Arizona's pair of Midklar and Diaz 8-1.
