STANFORD, Calif. - The Purdue men's golf team is tied for second place after the first round of The Nelson golf tournament in Stanford, Calif. The Boilermakers fired a first-round 280 and are only one stroke behind Florida Southern University for the tournament lead.
Purdue senior Lee Williamson leads the event after the first round. Williamson carded a five-under 66 and leads two others by one stroke. Junior Chris Mayson fired a 70 and finished tied for 12th place. Senior Jason Bukowski is currently tied for 25th place after shooting an even-par 71. Freshman Dustin Cone is tied for 68th after a first-round 77. Junior Peter Karmis is tied for 42nd after firing a 73.
The Nelson, which is being hosted by Stanford University, features 15 teams.
The second round will begin Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m. EST.
