WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's tennis conclude final day of competition in the June Stewart Fall Invitational in Nashville, Tenn., today, Oct. 21.
In Flight One of singles, sophomore Gretchen Haynor fell to Alabama Birmingham's Monika Schmid 7-6, 6-1. Junior Melissa Iqbal was dominated, 6-0, 6-0, by Kentucky's Lauren Rookledge in the consolation final of the second flight. In the back draw of Flight Three, Freshman Amy Walgenbach was defeated by Penn State's Maaria Husain 6-2, 6-0.
In Flight Four, freshman Lara Burgarello fell to Tennessee's Majen Immink 6-3, 6-4 in the finals, giving her a fourth place finish.
Freshman Shawna Zuccarini was upset by Alabama Birmingham's Femke de Boer 7-6, 6-2 in the fifth flight. In Flight Six, junior Missy Wright lost a heartbreaker, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, to Middle Tennessee State's Tanja Bachheim. Freshman Catie McLevish was disappointed in a marathon match, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3, to Alabama Birmingham's Nadia Dellarciprete.
