Four Women's Tennis Players Pick Up Wins in Nashville

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue women's tennis team complete day two at June Stewart Fall Invitational in Nashville, Tenn., today.

Head coach Mat Iandolo was proud of all efforts made by the Boilermakers.

"The players learned lessons from Friday's competition and applied them to make a great day," Iandolo said. "We won a lot more singles matches which was highlighted by sophomore Gretchen Haynor's victory over 84th - ranked Big Ten opponent, Rebecca Ho.

In the consolation final of the first round, Haynor upset Penn State's 84th- ranked Ho in a marathon match 4-6, 7-6, 7-6. In the second flight, junior Melissa Igbal defeated, 6-2, 6-2, Marshall's Anna Mitira in the final of the back draw. In Flight Three, freshman Amy Walgenbach dominated Mississippi's Alesya Ignatieva 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.

Freshman Lara Burgarello, competing in the fourth flight, fell to Clemson's Anna Sauitskaya 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 in the final round. In Flight Five, freshman Shawna Zuccarini lost, 7-5, 7-5, to Marshall's Danielle Hock.

In the sixth flight, senior Missy Wright dominated Clemson's Sunnie Harmon 6-1, 6-2 in the consolation final.

Freshman Catie McLevish lost a heartbreaker, 6-3, 6-2, to Clemson's Ania Dolinska of the back draw final.

In the first flight of doubles, Purdue's pair of Haynor and Wright defeated Clemson's team of Alix Lacellarie and Laurence Jayet 8-4, giving them a third place finish. In Flight Three, Igbal and Burgarello fell to Kentucky's tandem of Amy Trefethen and Jill Buckley 8-3. They concluded the evening in sixth.

Zuccarini and Walgenbach lost, 8-4, to Clemson's pair of Anna Sauitskaya and Ania Dolinska in the second flight. McLevish combined with Tennessee's Ashley Robards was defeated by Clemson's duo of Sunnie Harmon and Richelle LeSaldo 8-1. They ended in sixth place.

Finals will conclude in singles on Sunday, Oct. 21 with three Boilermakers competing at 9 a.m. and the rest of the morning. Full results for the June Stewart Fall Invitational hosted by Vanderbilt can be found at www.vucommodores.com.
