Purdue Fights Hard, But Falls In Four To Michigan St.

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue volleyball team was defeated 29-31, 30-25, 31-29, 30-25 by Michigan State on Saturday night. The Boilermakers fall to 1-11 (1-5 Big Ten), while Michigan State improves to 10-3 (3-3 Big Ten).

Rookie Leah Wischmeier turned in a season-high 21 kills to lead both teams. Senior Maegan Petersen recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. Sophomore Eryn Leach turned in 10 kills and five blocks on the evening.

The Boilermakers got off to a 6-4 lead in Game 1. The Boilermakers extended the lead to 14-9 and then went on 9-8 run to take a 22-17 lead. Michigan State scored seven unanswered before committing a service error. A kill from sophomore Joanna Lowry, block from Leach and an out-of-bounds error by the Spartans tied the score 26-all. Michigan State responded by scored three to serve at gamepoint, 29-26. Leach and Petersen both pitched in kills to get within one. The Spartans sent the ball out of bounds twice more before a block from Leach and rookie Lyndsey Phillips gave Purdue the game.

The Old Gold and Black will host IUPUI on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
