The Purdue women's golf team concluded its 2001 season today, finishing 20th at the NCAA Championships held at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. All five competitors representing the Boilermakers will return next season, giving the team an excellent chance to surpass this year's performance.
Sophomore Kari Damron led the team with an overall score of 305 for the four rounds, as she shot a 77 for the final round. She finished tied for 53rd. Sophomore Heather Zielinski finished tied for 68th with a score of 309. Zielinski shot a 78 for the final round. Junior Caroline Laurens tied for 77th after shooting a 79 for the final round, giving her a four-round total of 311. Freshman Beth Hermes tied for 85th with a score of 312, just one stroke behind Laurens. Hermes shot a 79 for the final round as did junior Andrea Makauskas. Makauskas tied for 100th overall with a score of 317.
The Purdue men's golf team will travel to Durham, N.C., next weekend to compete in the NCAA Championships hosted by Duke.
