Purdue Stops Penn State 4-3

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The women's tennis team picked up its first conference win of the season when it stopped Penn State 4-3.

The Boilermakers earned the doubles point when it won two of the three matches. Lynsey Fick and Melissa Iqbal defeated Judy Wang and Janelle Perez 8-4 at the No. 2 position. Gretchen Haynor and Erika Quebe partnered at the No. 3 spot to defeat Teresa Whiteside and Leigh Ann Merryman 9-7.

Success carried over for Purdue into singles action. Haynor defeated Wang 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 3 spot. Melissa Woods picked up a 7-6 (3), 6-3 victory over Perez at the No. 4 position. And to close out the match with a win, Lisa Walgenbach beat Merryman 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

The Boilermakers will travel to Ohio State on Sunday to face the Hawkeyes in a 10 a.m. match.
