Wrestling Team Knocks Off Eastern Illinois With Ease

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue wrestling team picked up its second weekend win on the road Sunday when it defeated Eastern Illinois 28-9. With the win the Boilermakers improve to 10-6, while Eastern Illinois fell to 3-9.

It only took an hour and 25 minutes for Purdue to win nine of the 10 matches it played against the Panthers. Sophomore John Bush won the Boilermakers firs three points with a decision over Joe Gleissner. Junior Jake Vercelli picked up six more for Purdue when he pinned B.J. Berteisman in the 285-pound category. Junior Jason Silverstein's match at 125-pounds was forfeit, resulting in a 15-0 lead for the Old Gold and Black.

The onslaught of wins continued for Purdue in the 133-pound category when senior Evan Robinson picked up a major decision over Mike Stanley. Rookies Paul Sacquitne and Brad Harper respectively contributed victories at 141-pounds and 149-pounds.

A win from freshman Ryan Lange over Louis Taylor in the 174-pound division gave Purdue the victory.

Next action for the Boilermakers will be the Big Ten Championships in Evanston, Ill., beginning on March 3.
