WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Purdue women's tennis team split a pair of matches Saturday, beating Miami University and falling to Illinois State at the Lafayette Sports Center.

The Boilermakers won the match against Miami 6-1.

"Against Miami, we did a good job of coming out with a lot of energy from the get-go," said coach Mat Iandolo. "We showed our superiority from an early point."

The Redbirds of Illinois State prevailed 4-3 over the Boilermakers.

"We brought the energy against Illinois State, but they're a very talented team at the top four spots," Iandolo said. "While it's disappointing to lose a close match, I'm very proud of our performance."

Freshman Melissa Woods notched two singles victories, the only Boilermaker to do so on the day.

The Boilermakers, whose record stands at 2-4, are in action again Sunday, Feb. 18, against Iowa at the Lafayette Sports Center.
